Hi!
I just wanted to see how you all felt about the special ed programs in
Raleigh-Durham. This job opportunity could lead us either to New Jersey or
North Carolina. Please....any info on special schools in the area, the
school district, methodologies used would be appreciated. Thanks.....Kathy

Re: [NIDS] Free Valtrex

Speaking of Valtrex......my 2 yr old started taking Valtrex about 3 days
ago, and I've seen no reaction, negative or positive thus far. If any of your
children have improved on Valtrex, how long does it take, or is it too gradual
to notice?
Dr. G started the antivirals first insted of the antifungals because he felt
from Jacob's history (motor problems, staring episodes) that his viral levels
would be very high. Lo and behold, his HHV6 levels was indeed, way up there
(80)
What have been everyone else's experience with anti-virals? Does your child
have to have a flu-like "die-off" period to see real improvement? What
improvements have you seen, if any? How long does it take to see improvement on
the labs?
Sorry for all the questions!
Becky, mama to Jacob,2.5
PS...... I've found the best way to give the nasty-tasting crushed up Valtrex
tab is by making a "sandwich" out of it with Rice Dream. Put the med in the
middle of one bite of ice cream so it slips right down their throat without them
ever tasting it. I was initally mixing it up with the yogurt or ice cream and
it was coming right back out with a big "YEUCKK!" this way it never touches his
tongue :)

Re AB88

For those of you interested in the Mental Health Parity Law (MHPL) or AB88,
the site for Advocates for special kids has some good information and copies
of forms to use to write to your insurance company. The site is
www.advocatesforspecialkids.org Now, this is a California site. When
looking up my own state of Wisconsin, I could not find where this bill had
been enacted yet. Also, Assembly Bill 88 is not the same state to state so
use the MHPL name when using the search engine.
Also, you may contact your state's insurance commissioner. I used to work
for Humana in Florida and nothing made people more anxious than a letter
from the commissioner or a state rep. From working there, I have realized
that the people who bug the company the most usually get what they want.
Documentation helps immensely also.
Good Luck,
Anne in Wisconsin

If you go to www.valtrex.com and click on the free trial offer area
you can print out a coupon for 10 free tablets.
There is a trick...you have to have a doctor's prescription for the
10. On our last refill, I asked DR G's office to write 2
prescriptions...one for the 10 and the other for the rest.

Yes, but much more subtle than before. The last time he had a tiny bit of
milk in a medicine about two years ago, he ran wildly for days and took weeks
to recover. We have done quite a bit to improve his health and he was also
treated for milk/caesin through a combo TBM/NAET allergy treatment. But when
we retried cheese, he really didn't want to eat it so I had to coax him so I
could see if he'd react. He was a little "off" so we tried yogurt the next
day and he was still a bit off but not dramatically so. Just not doing as
well with school work and his auditory processing was not quite as good. He
only ate a tiny amount of each though so if he kept eating it and it built up
over time, he'd probably have more problems. But, he did have a very bad
case of constipation in the days following which I think was due to the milk
products. He is a bit constipated this week after starting Famvir which
contains lactose. I'm hoping it's a viral die-off thing and not an
indication he can't handle the Famvir. We'll see.

Re: [NIDS] PUDDING AND YOGURT

Hi Candi, have you tried the soy puddings? The brand
my son likes is called Zendon. They also make
chocolate soy milk which is yummy. My son too has some
texture issues with yogurt. He used to love the yo
babies cause they're smooth. I strain the soy
blueberry for him and he loves it. Tried the raspberry
and he said it was gross. Good luck! J:)

Hello Everyone ,
So many of you really have some great ideas with foods and suggestions
....my son is a terrible eater ,only eats about 10 different things ...we do the
do's and don'ts diet from Dr.Goldberg...for almost 2years now ...I have began
once again to find a good pudding or yogurt that of course is dairy free...he
use to eat both yogurt and pudding but not the dairy free kind ...we have tired
silk yogurt with no success...he was many eating issue as far as texture, smell
....
Also I see many writing about toe walking ...my son wrote the book on toe
walking ...he is 4 1/2 years old and we have tried OT/PT for 2 years and even
had the leg braces made to fit his feet...for fear he would never be able to
stand on his heels ...after all this I do believe for my son ...it's all about
sensory issues and the feeling he gets from walking on his heels ....he has
overdeveloped lower extremities ...and great calves ...we don't even worry so
much anymore over it and he has come down alittle at first he was like a toe
dancer....but he is able to stand on his heels ... a good thing is to stretch
the heel cords...just my little two cents....HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL...
Candi ....
ps ...thanks in advance to Donna who is so good at answering some many
of the questions ..one of these days Donna I'm going to look you up when we go
to see Dr.Goldberg

If your son is kindergarten age or older, have you
considered using speech therapists in your local
school system?

And when you re-intoduced those foods after eliminating them for so long, did
your son show any adverse reactions that you could see?
Thanks,
